on Ebay:

Antique Pure Silver Tea Pot and Dish

You are bidding on a pure silver tea pot and what I believe is a candy dish that is also made of silver. They both are tarnished a bit, but would shine up very nicely with a good polish. I just don't want to mess with it myself. The lid was broken off when I found it, but could easily be fixed. I do not know how old these item actually are. I found them at an auction. They look very old to me. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Happy bidding and Merry Christmas!!

Note: Auction ended early with Buy It Now.

I have seen more junky 20th century plated coffeepots represented on eBay as solid silver than I would have thought possible. I think the trademarks of certain makers confuse the sellers. One time I bought a poorly pictured creamer that was represented as coin silver and it looked right (from the picture). It was really a 20th century silverplated reproduction creamer that looked far worse in person. Luckily the seller quickly refunded my $10. So I think the majority of such misrepresentation is honest and due to inexperience in the silver field.

But the astounding thing is that it had an opening bid of $50 and someone bought it!
