Do you mean mote spoon? If so, I can tell you that mote spoons were produced for about one hundred years starting in the late seventeenth century. Ian Pickford, in his book Silver Flatware English, Irish and Scottish 1660 to 1980, puts forth a very convincing argument that the mote spoon was used in the service of tea. The pierced bowl would have been used either as a tea caddy or to remove bits or motes that floated on top of the tea. The pointed stem would have been used to clear a clogged teapot spout. What do you mean my "inclusive dates?" If you would like more definitive information about the piece in question, you need to provide more information and preferably a photo of the piece and all of the marks on it. This will help in determining more accurately the date of production, who the maker is and where it was produced. [This message has been edited by June Martin (edited 03-04-2001).] IP: Logged |
