I received a query this morning that has me stumped.

Is anyone familiar with this mark/maker?

The lighting on the lettering makes it appear raised. Could these be cast? If so thy may not even be silver.

WEV,

Not at all familiar.
They look as if they are cast? Are they even silver? They kind of look like pewter or white metal or silverplate.

Here is a wild thought, during Japan's "novelty period" I recall that a Japanese town renamed itself to Usa so they could mark their exports "Made in USA." Could something like that being going on here?

WEV, somewhere I have a youth knife and fork with the same WB/W mark. They came in a box lot of coin, and I never got around to doing anything with them. They have the ABC's on each handle. They are definitely not silver. I think they are white base metal. I feel they probably are American, and maybe from 1900-1930s. I think my pieces and the items you show were very inexpensive and available at low-end retailers.

I've seen some base metal spoons with these markings that were cheaply plated with silver which usually has worn off. If seen in person I doubt many of us would even pick them up for a look.
