[01-1561] Hi, I recently picked up a 10" Reed & Barton serving plate (#1203 under hallmark) which also has a cannon and 2 hand written initials under the hallmark? "LIX & TNX" Are these typical, or just someone who has marked their collection? I am new to this hobby of collecting(silver), but love it so far. Can you also help me w/the pattern name by the plate #? I have had a hard time finding the pattern names of pieces per the mfg marks, # etc.. Is there a way to reference # to find pattern "name"? Thank you so much for any help you can give, I look forward to visiting this site often. So much great content for us newcomers to the hobby. (I have some other question's about Rare? Rodgers plates I have, but will search forums more to see if I can find answers) Thanks again IP: Logged |

Mark, Welcome to the Silver Salon Forums. I am assuming your R&B serving plate is marked sterling and that the cannon is the date mark for 1940. We will need photos. Scratch marks are typically inventory or pricing marks done by a seller or owner. Again photos would be helpful. Occasionally a holloware pattern can identified by a number. If it is a well known pattern or product line then a photo may get you the pattern name more quickly. Your Rodgers plates questions... if the plates are silverplate it would be best to post your questions and photos in the Silverplate Forum. I am sure we would all like to hear (in the Silver Stories Forum) about how you discovered this new hobby and how you progress. IP: Logged |

Thanks Scott. I have some nice detail photos, will get on web soon. I look forward to discussing the Wm Rodgers stuff, the sets I have are dated 1883 and one even has the original sticker (Wm R. Mfg) on it.. Too cool.. Thanks again. IP: Logged |

The 1883 would not be the date they were made, that is just a part of the standard F.B. Rogers trademark and simply indicates that the company was established then. Most Rogers items are silver plated, but some is sterling and is so marked. [This message has been edited by Kimo (edited 06-15-2004).] IP: Logged |
