I'm saving for Scott Martins book. I wonder if these are in it? One spoon is 8 1/2" marked H G EATON with bust profile and "tipped" shape. The other is 9" marked E E BAILEY similer to "tipped" shape only Plain end with reverse curve. Any help with ID ? thanks IP: Logged |

See here for information on Mr. Bailey. Nothing to offer on Mr. Eaton, I'm afraid. [This message has been edited by wev (edited 10-15-2013).] IP: Logged |

It is still made today, but has been a minor pattern since the advent of elaborately decorated flatware in the 1860s. IP: Logged |

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was talking about how the end of the handle bent down instead instead of the later more common up. Thanks IP: Logged |

It depends on the form of the piece and the caprice of the maker. Very, very generally speaking c 1850-1860, but I have earlier pieces that turn up and later ones that turn down. The direction the tip takes, excluding other details of design, would be a poor basis for dating. IP: Logged |
