This has been a great educational thread for me! Thanks to all. I have additional information to add about the piece that started this thread. My mother, who was a silver dealer for many years, came to visit recently and it was her opinion that my piece is 19th cent. Dutch and that it was a wine strainer-apparently it was used to remove flies and other floating items in wine. It would have had a rosewood handle. IP: Logged |
