[01-2219] Here are some hallmarks on a fiddle pattern ladle that don't make sense to me:
Crown doesn't look quite right for Sheffield. And "beaver passant"??? "A" with serifs could be Sheffield 1844, but should have a Victoria bust duty mark (or might be post-1918? - I don't have those marks listed). Could these be Canadian pseudo hallmarks? "A" = 1936? Or just silverplate pseudo hallmarks (intended to deceive?). TIA for all enlightenment! IP: Logged |

Yes, I believe it is plate. There was a J. Slater and Son of Sheffield, but Wyler gives them a different mark. Because this is plate, the "date" mark means nothing. Only info on the company would give you a ballpark date. TM IP: Logged |

If you had put beaver into the SSF search function you would have found this post ( I am unable to identify this particular hallmark on a decanter stand) or this post (Hallmark Identification) or this post (animal marks). IP: Logged |

Thanks, I hadn't used the Search function before, works well. Will keep this more in mind next time. IP: Logged |
