Hello all! Didn't know quite where to post this question so here goes. My son is in New Orleans till Wednesday. Can anyone suggest a shop for silver smalls (besides Rau) which he is familiar with. Thank you in advance for your time. IP: Logged |

As You Like it Silver Shop, located on 3033 Magazine Street is a great place to stop and look around. I also believe one of the members of the SSF is an employee there so they definitely know their silver, as his posts are always insightful and interesting! There are also many other small antique shops that with enough time and snooping, I am sure that you will find some wonderful silver must have that will make your travels worth while. IP: Logged |

Although all silver dealers are competing for the buyers business, most silver dealers have come to know that supporting each other is good business. So don’t be afraid to ask where else you might shop, most will gladly share with you their local haunts, (other dealers, thrift stores, flea market, etc.). Also help with the spreading of good will by making sure the shop you are in knows who refered you. IP: Logged |

Just wondering why your visitor to New Orleans didn’t use the yellow pages phone book (in print or online) ? IP: Logged |

Scott, I think he thought it would be fun to maybe meeting any forum members that might be there as carlaz suggested. Pehaps I should have phrased the question better. Thank you. Jersey IP: Logged |

Jersey, though it's a little late for shopping suggestions for your son, both you and he should definitely read Carla Zarse's full-page article "Restoring New Orleans" in the current issue of Silver Magazine. It briefly illustrates the plight of the city's economic and historic elements, but points to a brighter future, revealing the optimism and dogged work-ethic of those who call New Orleans home. I do hope your son had a wonderful time there during Mardi Gras. I know I certainly did! IP: Logged |

IJP Thanks! Too bad you couldn't meet up! My son has been going to Mardi gras for the past 15 years. He felt not going this year would be a disservice to the people of the great city of New Orleans that he had met & enjoyed all those years. His interest has always been in the past as having fun, which he has done. He also has brought a number of friends there every year as well this year included to suppot N.O. in their recovery efforts. However in light of what has happened and knowing his Mother's interest in silver, he has taken a different perspective on things (as we all do when things are gone). Perhaps Next year you can meet up. BTW He was interviewed on a number of your TV stations.....look for the guy with the King Hat! God Bless! Jersey IP: Logged |

Also note that smpub.com and Silver Salon Forums got a two-page spread in that issue! Wow, that's great publicity! Good for you, June & Scott! IP: Logged |
