[01-2426] This is the only mark I can find on a Bristol type Biscuit Jar and this is on the inside of the lid.
Although there is also a metal rim and bale, I can find no other numbers or marks on them either. Can anyone provide me with more information about this company? Since I find no sterling mark, I assume the metal is silverplate. A card found inside the biscuit jar says "Courtesy of the Cedar Rapids Antique Show" Victorian Decorated English Bristol Glass Biscuit Jar (circa 1890) (Re-silvered Top) and gives a value of 175.00. I believe my mother must have taken advantage of a free appraisal sometime in years past, but we unfortunately never discussed it and I don't know what, if any, other information she gleaned at the time. Though the card says "re-silvered"the rim and bale are quite tarnished. This may account for not finding any other letters or numbers, but I really looked pretty good I thought. There is also a sticky label on the bottom that says Floral Decorated Gray Opaque Bristol...but I recognize mom's printing so this was not original to the piece. Can anyone tell me anything about Boulton & Mills or point the way to finding out more about them on the web? Thank you so much. IP: Logged |
