In my eternal quest for perfection I came across this on-line page which may be of interest to other amateurs: Silver Photography Techniques

These light tents are great for photography(there are several brands, and several sizes) but they have their drawbacks -- be prepared to store them flat. My 30" one came twisted up into a 13" storage bag -- you have to collapse the tent and then twist it into a figure 8 to get into the small bag. The tent is supported by four steel rings, which are under extreme tension; each ring is a thin flat band joined into a ring by rivets at the ends of the band. On the first attempt to twist it into the shape directed by the instructions, one ring broke apart - the rivets holding it together popped out, and the ends tore throught the fabric. Try as I might I cannot rejoin the ends without some sort of special jig, which I obviously do not have. So, if you get one, be forewarned and be prepared to store it flat, and forget the small bag!

Thanks for the warning.
You may be able to effect a repair to your broken hoop by inserting each end into one of those straight-through crimp connectors and crimping the ends securely. You could remove the palstic insulation from the connector to render it less bulky.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I would wire the ende together through the holes for the rivets, as the spring steel would be too strong for an electrical connector to hold together, but you have to get the ends together first. I haven't figured out yet how to do that and still have any skin left on my fingers!
