[01-2554] Using the search feature here I was able to solve "mystery" marks on a small Georg Jensen bowl I have. I had thought the extra marks were from one of his designers, but found out from a previous post that they were London import marks by George Stockwell. It is marked with Mr Stockwell's marks and the Jensen mark for the years 1925 to 1932 and 925S and 81B. My question are this. IP: Logged |

The two top pictures are of my bowl. Borrowed these marks from another post here, which I found in my search. No time to get a workable shot from my bowl. IP: Logged |

I deleted your links to the web page. Please don't do that again. Especially with the email link to respond to. This is a public forum where we expect to share in the dialog of answers. IP: Logged |

Actually I did not realize what I had done. I just cut and pasted what was there, or so I thought. IP: Logged |

In spite of the date associate with your piece of Jensen, it might well have been designed much earlier, and by Georg Jensen himself. Janet Drucker's book on Jensen silver is very useful, and there are others out there. Johan Rohde was an important designer, but as far as I can recall, the earliest stuff is all by Georg and then Rohde joins in during the teens and twenties. I'm too old to actually hold onto much information, and I'm not at my office--but the standard references on Jensen will be able to help. IP: Logged |

Is it possible to get a pic of the Jensen mark? IP: Logged |

Thanks for your answers. Will try and get an out of town library loan on the silver books, if I cannot manage to purchase them. I will try with the mark. It is down in the "well" at the bottom of the bowl or dish. I tried taking shots but they did not turn out, but will try again. The mark is the crown over the sideways oval with GEORG JENSEN inside it. Also it has 925S beside it. OK here it is, but I think it is probably next to use less.

Taking up my search again I found an online catalog which gave the following information, for 81B. It said 81B was the Cactus pattern, designed by Gundorph Albertus, art director for the Georg Jensen Silversmithy, 1926-1954. Since the website comes from a reputable shop, sharing the same last name as a well known, respected Jensen researcher, it leads me to be terribly confused. Did each designer have their own numbering system? In other words could there be several 81B under the Jensen "umbrella"? IP: Logged |
