Dear all

Please find following pictures of a napkin ring I picked up about a year ago. While there are not any traditional sterling markings (well, as far as I am aware!) it certainly appears to be silver. Any idea as to history? I reckon North America / early 20th century?

The marks are a Queens head, a Crown and "SS".

Thanks in advance

Waylander

Hello Waylander!

Happy New Year.

Nice piece. Only a guess on my part but it could be from England, and the ss for Samuel Smily.

I'm sure others on the Forum will be better able than I, but I thought I'd take a stab at it.

Enjoy the Day.

I'd be more inclined to South Australia, late 19thC. Check Cavill, Cocks & Grace "Australian Jewellers..." for Silas Schlank.

I have checked the above book - such a mark not found. I do think though that Schlank is a possibility, and think that a check with members of the Silver Society of Australia in Sydney at one of their meetings may help. Good luck and let us know if you have any success.
