[01-2644] These are the marks (and only marks) to be found on a gold Elgin watch with a lever set movement (7 j I think). The case is nicely engraved and appears to be solid gold and maybe there is something in Tardy's Hallmarks on Gold but I sadly don't own that. There is a lion rampant, the word "lion" in English and a Swiss cross. The metal is flexible.

Hello vathek! I can't make out the numbers on the case, could you please write them out for me. Also, can you take the watch apart from the case & photo that. Also the measurements. Thank you. Jersey IP: Logged |

Jersey: the numbers on the case are only serial numbers for the case. It is an 8 size movement but I'm leary of taking it out of the case with the lever set. thanks IP: Logged |

Hi Vathek! I know that they are serial #'s, but there may be a way to track it. Do you know anyone who can open it, there could be good info there as well. The watch maker also is not always the case maker, and the name on the face of the watch does not always match the name of the guts. Is it a Lady's watch? Thank you, just trying to help out. Thanks Jersey. I will look into doing this as soon as I get enough time to be careful with it. IP: Logged |

I would guess the case is actually American. Have seen several American gold, silver, and plated 19th century watchcases with marks such as those--not identical, but the same style: various hallmark-like symbols and words that are either helpful or misleading, such as "solid". Also the engine turned engraving combined with hand-engraved houses, flowers, etc. seems to occur on a lot of American watchcases, as well as jewelry. If anybody has 1890s catalogs or reprints, check out the watch section. IP: Logged |
