Dale Posts: 2132 Registered: Nov 2002	posted 02-09-2009 03:55 PM Going over the recent email newletter from Replacements, this caught my eye: quote: 'Speaking of difficult times, you have probably seen in the news that there has been recent turmoil in the tableware industry, with many famous brands filing in bankruptcy or operating in insolvency, including divisions of Waterford Wedgwood, Johnson Brothers, Franciscan, Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, Hutschenreuther, Tirschenreuth, Lenox, Dansk, Gorham Stainless, Royal Worchester, and Spode. You may have also heard that Lenox is closing a select number of their outlets, Oneida the majority of theirs, and Fitz & Floyd and Pfaltzgraff all of theirs.' Many of these firms have silverware divisions. Wonder why only Gorham Stainless is mentioned? Anybody know? IP: Logged
ahwt Posts: 2334 Registered: Mar 2003	posted 02-09-2009 09:17 PM Dale, I am sorry but I have no information on the Gorham Company. My comment is to pass on my wife's concern that most of the production of china seems to have left England and gone to several far eastern countries. With all these companies in bankruptcy, the cost savings gained does not seem to have paid off. IP: Logged

Just a guess but perhaps it's because the division that it was farmed out to was one of the companies that went out of business. chase33 Posts: 362 Registered: Feb 2008	posted 02-11-2009 10:18 AM I believe that when Lenox sold Gorham to Lifetime Brands, it kept the stainless business as well as some of the rights to produce holiday items. If so, that may be why it was listed along with Lenox and Dansk. Robert IP: Logged
