[01-2825] I am searching for references to "fire scale" - I have done searches (entire forum) for "fire scale" (using quote marks) I get over 200 hits - of which the first two do not contain either the word fire or the word scale - any help here would be appreciated. Best Regards
PS - I have randomly done find on this page searches on the items returned and can not find Fire nor scale in any message - any thoughts? IP: Logged |

you should have tried it without the quotes.

Thanks Scott, I re-searched and only came back with the top two references that you gave plus this post. Were your results from a search for fire scale? why do I get less hits? It appears best not to use quotes. I was trying to not get results with both fire and scale but not fires cale. I guess I should read the search criteria article again - damn nubees
PS - that said I went looking for search FAQ - maybe lazy - maybe dumb - found none - does a search criteria page exist for this forum? IP: Logged |

The SSF simple search is of either the subject lines or the first x characters of a thread. I don't remember what x is as it has been several years since the last time there was a reason to review the mechanics of the simple forum search. But it is not very deep. We have considered installing another search function but this has all sorts of issues. Outside of the simple SSF search I personally use other tools to expand my results; so often I can find things that go beyond x. These tools have their problems as well, for example, they didn't return what the simple search did. We would like to find a better "plug in" search. But so far, of the affordable ones, none have revealed themselves to work exactly as advertised or they just don't "plug in" and/or require our sharing confidential SSF user info. IP: Logged |

Thanks for explaining - it is never easy, is it? I guess if I can't find something I can always ask you. I appreciate the existence of the forum and commend you for being here.
