Hello all,

I found this pierced ladle recently and am having trouble identifying the maker and the origin. I am posting this in the General Silver forum because at first blush I thought this was American, but now think it may be Continental. The mark is the letters NE conjoined; you will see in the photo of the mark that there is a worn mark; it is the same NE mark. There is a fairly worn monogram on the back that is indicative of those I have seen on Continental pieces, and the piercing design of the bowl is more European to me.

Any suggestions?

doc, I don't know what the mark is, but the engraving style is definitely Continental, most likely Nordic.

Doc,
What struck me immediately was that the shell design looks almost exactly like ours at ONC. Over the years I've seen many different interpretations of the shell motif, but the one on your ladle is the closest to ours I've ever seen.
