[01-2879] Well, it seems to have started again. Silver stolen from an antique shop in Lambertville, N.J. using smoke bombs! My guess is that it already has been melted rather than take the chance of locating the items. Either way I hope they get caught ! I wonder too if the owner has a list out as to what to look for, there is the big pier show this weekend in NYC. So sad! Heard nickel is up too, wonder if nickel silver will be next? Another thought on Lamberville robbers, maybe they had a package ready to be shipped & they went straight to the PO, UPS, or FEDX!!!!! Sounds like an inside job to me! Jersey IP: Logged |

Very upsetting....a combo of silver prices and a dire economy. And it's not just silver: Thieves recently cut and stole the copper downspouts on my parents' Federal era house. I know someone else who has been the victim of two downspout heists (replaced the first set only to have the new ones stolen several months later). IP: Logged |

Hi seaduck! Oh, that's too bad. Happens here too but I hadn't hear anything since copper was down in price. Where did this happen? No accounting for people, it's scary. Hope your parents are OK. Jersey IP: Logged |

I can understand why some people resort to thievery. When those people are trapped in poverty or low income situations and that world is in a downward spiral then ethics/morality go out the window. So do not judge those persons caught in a world not of their own making but rather think of what society ought to do to help alleviate the causes of poverty. Of course there are always the ones who are just greedy and see it as being easier than working. look at what happened in the real estate market and wall st. IP: Logged |

Hi Jersey-- Parents are fine, thanks. This happened in Salem, Massachusetts. The boldness astonishes me, cuz the thieves needed ladders and had to work to saw the downspouts. And it's a fairly built-up historic neighborhood, so you'd think they'd worry about being seen, even tho' it was at night. Shortly after my parents bought the house 40 years ago, there was a similar rash of thefts -- at that time, targeting weathervanes on carriage houses and outbuildings. Ours was stolen, too. My father replaced it with a metal toilet-tank ball from a local plumbing supply shop. Looks pretty good! (Tho, come to think of it, we should double check that it's still there...the thieves might have assumed that it's copper too.) IP: Logged |

The text is in danish but see the picture. Case is statue 3 meter high weight 2,5 tons stolen. The statues was made by famous artist Jericau and set up in 1860. To get acess to the statue thieves had to moove 2 stone blocks each weight 7 to 8 tons. quote: IP: Logged |

Incredible list from Peter, incredible loss! The bad thing is that those patterns are very popular & are sold all over. Does Peter have anything specific to look for such as, would be special markings or initials or serial numbers or some other way to ID them as belonging to him? As for the rarer pieces such as the blanc mange spoon ......it's still a problem I think. I would love to see a picture of that. Jersey IP: Logged |

Hi there Scott, It would be of great help if we knew what the monograms were on the Chantilly and the other silver pattern and pieces. Marc IP: Logged |
