[01-2884] In the 1980s the "faux finish" became a popular and expensive trend in interior design (sometimes the faux version of a material would cost more than the material itself). But long before that, faux finishes appeared on silver objects. Here are a few examples found online: c1920s German silver locket with engraved wood grain motif: c1910s Kerr wine coaster with engraved wood grain motif: c1930s silver box with trompe l'oeil malachite enamel
Does anybody else have examples to post? IP: Logged |

Postnikov, I do my best to reply as quickly as possible. I have been busy hosting a friend from London for the past several days. That said, your contributions are much appreciated. I have seen several trompe l'oeil pieces similar to that in your first picture. However that cigar box is really wonderful and unusual. Can you tell us more about it, such as who made it and in what year? Also, it would be nice to see some detail shots of the cigar box if possible. IP: Logged |
