A pair of English tea tongs marked I [pellet] B, dating from the late 1730s (or so the kind and knowledgeable Dr. David "Tea Tongs" Shlosberg tells me), with Baroque "cherub heads" on the ends. The tongs themselves have been repaired, making them rather crooked.

Nice find. I don't recall seeing any similar examples, so I guess fairly rare. I wouldn't worry about the repair - it's something one has to live with in the case of tongs that have been well used. It prompts me to show the "Green Man" on the hinge of a pair of tongs, probably from the late 1740s. This is one of the two known pairs that David Shlosberg records in his book 18th Century Silver Tea Tongs. I don't know whether other examples have come to light since the book was published.
