[01-2934] Do you have a guilty collection? A guilty collection is something you collect but don't share with others cause it might be a little hard to explain? I do and thought it might be fun to see if others do too. Everyone knows I collect silver. They know I primarily collect Chantilly. They also know I collect other types of great pieces. What they don't know is that I collect jewelry. And not just any jewelry but the lapel spoon pins popular in the 50s-60s. It started innocently enough. My first was a Chantilly one on the original card because it went with my primary collection. But it quickly grew from there to include any pattern. My "secret" collection now numbers 33 and I have since added a few of the pattern bracelets, brooches, pendants, tie tacks, cufflinks, earrings and rings. The total number is about 56 pieces. I don't know why the appeal to me but they do. I do know that most people would look at me and go "Why?" and I know I could never explain it to them. So do you have a guilty collection? IP: Logged |

My entire collection! I once told a friend how many sets of flatware I had and he was stunned. I have almost as many sets of china, both dinner sets and tea/dessert sets. And unfortunately I don't cook. I do collect the tie/money clips that International made in their flatware patterns. I too have a couple on their original cards. So far I have Blossom Time, Continental, Courtship, Enchantress, Joan of Arc, Northern Lights, Prelude, Richelieu, Royal Danish, Silver Rhythm and Wedgwood. I've seen about three other patterns that I was unable to snag, but there are probably more. I hope that I've not bid against you for any on the big auction site. I'll admit that the spoon pins have been tempting, and I do have one in George and Martha, but as I can't wear them like I can my tie clips I've been able to resist them. IP: Logged |

OK here are a few quick pictures: Lapel spoon pins (I didn't get a chance to include those in the original packaging):
Here is a favorite. It is by Reed & Barton and has 3 spoons on it:
And a selection of bracelets:

Polly Yes I had but I have to admit that I really love the spoon and plate earrings. I don't know why but I just do. Love those papermache items, Postnikov. So any other guilty collections out there? Popquiz time: How many patterns can you name in the lapel spoon pins picture? Robert IP: Logged |

It has taken me a while due to posting problems, but here is my small money clip or tie clasp collection. I do use these when I wear a tie. Here is the one in Royal Danish that is still attached to it's card. The package is still sealed as well.
The last time I wore one of these I got very positive remarks about it from a professional colleague. She then went further to tell me that she had a friend who made jewelry from flatware, and that she was going to suggest to her friend that she make some. I was inwardly appalled, but I smiled and remarked that it sounded nice. There have been times when I was working on a set of silverplate only to find much-needed pieces of the pattern incorporated into a set of wind chimes or such. Did any other company make these? I would like to have examples of others if they did. Thanks so much for the help with this post, Scott. Once you told me what I was doing wrong, it made so much sense! IP: Logged |

Around 75% of my walking sticks. All of them not long enough for me. Good that I don't need one, Started with silver on sticks. Today, I also find those with "stack nagel" interesting - even those with a unique design. Missing one from Krakow it had a stiletto inside - around 60 cm long stiletto. Found it to expensive, but I regret not buying. Turkish carpet - around 75 years old. I buy far to many carpets have to put them on the wall.

Talon Thanks alot! Now I have another item to search for. I only have one tie clip (Contessina by Towle) but didn't realize there were others. Here are 2 pins I have from International in the original packaging: Queen's Lace: Wedgwood: And Hose_dk, great collection of canes. How many canes do you have? Always wanted one but never gotten around to buying one. IP: Logged |

I have more than 50 and some umbrellas too. They represent a period starting almost 100 years ago. The excist older I have a top made 1850ties. The stick unfortunately missing. But I have the silver. The prick engravement says "Barnlig Erkjæntlighed 1855" Childish gift 1855 - gift is not the word it is more personal than gift but cannot translate.
Silver mark from Aalborg silver smith named Jacob Christian Smith born 1811 in Randers citizenship in Aalborg December 23rd 1837 living in Adelgade (translate Nobility street - one of these is in every Danish town) then moved to Nytorv dead 1876. I would love to know who gave this to whom and why. These gifthingravions where very common around 1800 and onwards. In fact let me start a new post with them. IP: Logged |

So one question regarding my pins: Should I open the pins that are still in their orginal sealed packages in order to clean the spoon? I have a few that are black even though the plastic is sealed (unlike Taloncrest's which is stll shiny). If I do it, I plan on just opening one end and sliding out the card, polishing the spoon, placing it back on the card and then back in the package.
