It is Christmas Eve here in New York City. Not everyone celebrates Christmas but almost everyone celebrates the end of the year and the start of a new year. It is a reflective time and good time to look back on the year. This last year has been a wonderful and a difficult year for the Silver Salon Forum website. We have had some severe technical outages as our ISP did upgrades Today the site is running on better performing servers. Nearly everyday we see new and interesting posts. New Members are continually joining (even though they rarely post). And in the past few weeks the daily hits/visitors have tripled. These may be small achievements for a commercial website but for a community website with no paid staff, no offices and no assets it is remarkable. This has been achieved because of the generosity, talent and dedication of a small number of Moderators, Contributing Editors and Member volunteers. To these wonderful people June & I give our heartfelt thanks. And in the same manner, we thank you the many who visit every day. Of course we would prefer to have you participate by posting, but the traffic is noted and appreciated. It reinforces the concept of community at the Silver Salon Forums. The Silver Salon Forums is not our site; it is a community site. The economic times have had a detrimental impact on the precious metal artifact collecting world. The fact that we are managing to survive and traffic is up, we view as a positive. At the same time we have to wonder if the increased traffic is because so many dealers are no longer out there to answer questions? For well-off collectors and high end dealers in developed countries the market place seems to be expanding. As the new year approaches we have many new challenges to face and hope that with your trust and support we can meet those challenges and keep the site focused firmly on meeting your needs. And to all our Moderators, Contributing Editors, posting Members and Visitors from over 183 different countries across the globe we wish you peace, health and prosperity in 2012. Scott & June Martin In 2011 we have had 8,913,054 hits from:

An idea for the New Year: Posting will be free, lurking costs a buck. With those hit numbers, we'll finally be able to remodel the Moderator Lounge and stock some descent vintages. Cheers and here's hoping. IP: Logged |
