I trust by now everyone has received the recent issue of Silver Magazine and read the letter from Dean announcing the potential end of this beloved publication. Does anyone out there know of any efforts that have been initiated to save the magazine? It would be a real tragedy if this outlet for silver enthusiasts were to go under! I am shocked. Opened the magazine this afternoon with my usual sense of pleasure and anticipation......This time, looking at the cover, I thought, "It's true what they say -- that niche publications are the ones that are surviving." Honest. I really thought that. And then I read the editor's letter. I can't imagine that this fine publication will go under. And --this is what I really don't understand -- I can't imagine that I won't have access to its advertising! The articles and features are terrific, but, like other niche magazines that I subscribe to, the ads are every bit as important to me. I scrutinize every last one. I can't be alone in this -- surely this is the key to specialized, 'niche' publications. I really hope it finds some way to survive. And I thank the editor and the staff for making it such a great publication over the past years, as well as the publisher who took it on. (I say all this as the former longtime editor of another magazine.) IP: Logged |

I couldn't agree more. I love everything about the magazine and the ads are right up there in terms of what I look at first. I am really hoping that someone out there will step up and continue the legacy of this publication. There isn't any reason why it wouldn't thrive if it had more of an online presence to complement the physical magazine. IP: Logged |

The report of the magazine's death may be greatly exaggerated. IP: Logged |

Hi Richard, can you elaborate? IP: Logged |

Richard is correct. It appears that the magazine will survive (and hopefully thrive). I have been told that the new owner will introduce himself/herself in the next issue. I apologize for raising the alarm, but at the time of Dean's letter it sounded like the situation at least merited some discussion.
