There have been a few mentions in various posts over the years of silver being incorporated into high tech gadgets to add to their allure. Young people and silver Both Allan Adler and Wallace Silversmiths crafted a silver plated mouse. Sterling shod ipods in the Shreve Arts and Crafts hammered strapwork motif have been spotted in Southern California. Now high end tech maker LaCie has partnered with Christofle on the Sphere, a silver plated steel external hard drive. The orb shaped drive is both beautiful and functional, able to store a terabyte’s worth of digital files. It is scheduled to be available in late January 2014. We think this would be a wonderful addition to our silver “what’s it?” catalog in the future alongside the sterling Tiffany phone dialers. Someday they will smile at the beautiful but quaint object that stored only a terabyte. IP: Logged |

As I look at the "Wallace Silversmiths" on the side of the mouse, I'm reminded of a friend who worked at Towle. He said he was only a machine operator, but as long as the people running the company called themselves managers, he would call himself a silversmith. Geoff Blake IP: Logged |
