We have reported to the ISP that some users are experiencing occasional '500 errors' when arriving at the Silver Salon Forums. If you have had the '500 error' experience, we are sorry. At this time we don't believe the fix has anything to do with us. It appears to be an indiscriminate ISP issue. We opened a support ticket but since it is indiscriminate it may take some time. Right now they say it could be up to 72 hours before they respond.
Apparently most of our visitors are not seeing the problem. Hopefully you won't experience the problem. IP: Logged |

Don't know if this is useful info, but I received one (actually two or three with successive attempts) on March 24. IP: Logged |

What I think might be more helpful is when anyone has the intermittent 500 error problem if you could do a tracetcp and send us the results. If its not a load balancing issue then it might be a routing issue where traffic is getting corrupted (defective node?) and a tracetcp might reveal this. IP: Logged |

This morning we spoke with tier 3 support.
I don't expect this problem will be quickly resolved unless it becomes a bigger Internet problem (more people complaining to more ISP's) or we have some luck in ID'ing the troubled node. If you complain to your ISP I suppose it might be a good idea to have them read this thread.

Right now our TWC connection is returning the '500' error. We are doing this post with our Verizon connection. We tried using the tracetcp but we couldn't get it to work correctly on the two PC's we tried. We've ask two ISP's to assist in determining what is causing the '500' error problem ... if it is a Internet backbone network node/router problem its technically not their problem but both made noises like they would try.... Time will tell. If you have a good ISP support contact please show them this thread and ask them to get involved. IP: Logged |

We gotten several more emails from users who are experiencing this problem. We are sorry but there is very little for us to do to resolve an issue that the Internet has with a bad node/router on the Internt's backbone. Even so, we are pushing hard on the few who might chose to help resolve this third party problem. We and our ISP have done and will continue with all that we to resolve this issue. Unfortunately it appears to not be problem of our making. If you are experiencing this problem, it will go away as soon as your ISP/DNS sets your internet traffic is routed to our sever differently. Its just a matter of time before an alternative route is used and the problem goes away for you. Until we can identify the Internet backbone node (router) with the problem, the node's/router's owner, get the owners attention and then for them to make repairs... this will continue to be an intermittent problem. Suggestions to mitigate the '500' error problem IP: Logged |

I am afraid to do this post as it may be premature or it just may jinx things... For the fist time in weeks we have not seen any '500' errors in the logs for 48 hours (period: 5/29 13:53 to 5/31 13:01). The above could be because someone has fixed the problem or its just that no one has had a route that takes them through the troubled part of the Internet backbone. I am hoping things have been fixed and we have seen the last of '500' errors for a very very long time. IP: Logged |

I have been updating the above post... To recap things: I have reached out to several different entries about our '500' issue. In the beginning I felt the error was an Load balancing issue by our WEB hosting ISP.... they weren't so sure. So we then rationalized the error into a Internet backbone issue. This was also probable but much more difficult to ID the source and its not the ISP's responsibility. To the ISP's credit they said the would try to help us with the issue. I also reached out to others about the possible Internet backbone issue causing the '500' errors. OK after 48 hours of logs without a '500' error, not hearing anything from any of the support persons, I reached out to our WEB hosting ISP. I was talking with our WEB hosting ISP tier 3 support which is the highest civilian (client) to Techy contact possible. I asked what they knew about our problem. They said they bounced the problem to their techy higher ups. Apparently the techy higher ups only communicate with the tier 3 persons by email/IM. My guy was unsure what his higher ups may have done to resolve the issue but he thinks they found a problem at the server farm a fixed it. So if '500' error doesn't appear again then it was an issue at our ISP's server farm and not the internet backbone routing. I am going to stop checking the logs. After a week or so I will remove all the "500' threads IP: Logged |

We thought the "500" errors was behind us...and for a short while we didn't see any errors. Over the past few days there have been a few "500" errors, so this issue my not be completely resolved. As such, we returned this thread. IP: Logged |

We heard from the ISP that they have identified some malfunctioning server farm equipment and have removed the equipment. It is their belief that this will fix the problem. For the next week, we will spot check the logs for "500" errors. After a week, if we don't see any "500" errors then we are going to remove the threads about the "500" error. IP: Logged |

Over the last few days there hasn't been any significant "500" errors in the logs. One error was generated by ISP loop back testing and the other was from a Brazilian SPAMer. Today tier 3 support called to say that they are still watching and testing ... We think this means they fixed something but they are not 100% sure it was the cause. Our logs are quiet about "500" errors so if users have been getting "500" errors please let us know. IP: Logged |
