There is often great stuff buried in forums that people just don't see. One way to fix this is to pull interesting or controversial info to the surface every day (or maybe less frequently to start) and display it in a prominent place or box on the site with links to the appropriate posts/threads. If several of us can do the digging, we can build a separate "IPP&T" web page that is linked to from the main page. "IPP&T" = Interesting Past Posts & Threads. Another idea is a "W&W" page. "W&W" = Who (Silversmith, Company, Mark, etc.) & Where (which thread is it mentioned in). Each of these ideas is easy to start but with over 10,000 threads & 57,000 posts it's no small task. Once there are several volunteers, we could start a private Silver Caucus Room for the volunteers to discuss and develop things. Doing this properly is a bit daunting, so it will require several volunteers putting in a group effort. The IPP&T thread would work if there were volunteers in each forum to provide their recommendations. Then the group could organize the selected posts. And Scott (who runs SMP) said he would build the web page and links for this. Having a W&W resource would be great. Searching the forums for "mark" produced over 3,600 hits. Going through them all and figuring out which ones could be part of the W&W list is a lot of work. I'm certainly willing to help as an editor and do a some of the legwork. But to ensure a project like this gets off to a good start and produces results we'd need several dedicated volunteers. Or perhaps someone out there has another idea along these lines we should consider. So is who is going to volunteer? IP: Logged |

Would be willing to pitch in, not sure how 'dedicated' I could be though - not much free time these days... ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

There are lots of projects to do. Some big, some not so big and others yet to be conceived & developed. Right now there aren't enough volunteers to get much of anything done. Please consider volunteering to help get one or more projects done at the Silver Salon Forums. Your suggestions are always welcomed. And your active participation is greatly appreciated. Every day the SSF are visited by thousands of lurkers. Many of the lurkers are regulars (visit often); there are both registered and unregistered lurkers. Many of the registered lurkers have never done a post or only posted once. Other members who were once posting with some frequency are now only lurking. Without a community of members actively participating then the SSF stops being a forum and becomes something else. There needs to be a core group (many persons) to help keep the SSF active and to share the efforts to see a project(s) to completion. Without your support and involvement then the Silver Salon Forums will have to reconsider how it operates. There is also much a SSF member can do without volunteering. For example, you could occasionally do post to an existing thread or do a new post, hopefully this will help draw some of the lurkers out of the shadows. With a legacy of over 10,000 threads & 57,000 posts in the Silver Salon Forums just adding a comment to an existing aged thread/post will bring the deeply buried post/thread to the top of the list. Other examples: In the New Members' Forum there are unanswered questions that deserve another look. Or you could suggest that an existing thread be moved to a more appropriate forum. IP: Logged |
