I regret to say my site will be down until it is not. The host, Ancestry/Rootsweb, was hit by a massive denial of service attack several days ago and has not yet recovered. IP: Logged |

Oh, how frustrating, WEV! I will miss it and hope it comes back soon. IP: Logged |

That is good news. I really wonder why anyone would want to attack any website especially an ancestry website. In this case apparently several websites of the same type were attached. I saw on NPR last night a program about the New York High Line and wonder how can the same species create such a wonderful resource and at the same time create destruction. IP: Logged |

Came back on line a bit ago, so I now have no excuse getting a new build uploaded. Ancestry is a valuable resource, but it has made enemies along the way. They have shrewdly managed to secure absolute web publishing rights on huge swatches of public records and charge, not too cheaply, for access. They have bought up virtually all the small regional and specialized study .com sites, locking away once open access. The initial core of their genealogical data base was donated by amateur researchers, but it was accepted without vetting or any standard of veracity and the errors sill ripple across the web. That said, I can hardly complain -- they have hosted my site at no cost for 15 years. IP: Logged |

I am sorry to hear that your site has crashed, but am also pleased that my inability to access it is not due to some craziness with Google Chrome, which I was assuming it was until I just read this post. I just want to take this chance to once again thank you for your amazing work and for all the help it provides. IP: Logged |

Thank you very much Doc and the others that passed along kind words. It is amusing to note that I have now had 19 emails from sellers at that auction site who are frantic that I may have taken it down on purpose -- IP: Logged |

And it is still down - that is some nasty attack. Their revenge is handicapping a lot of innocent people. The one bright spot in this is that you actually got to hear from some of those who take it so for granted! You finally get to see some appreciation! I am back up and they say all is now well -- we'll see. If it lasts the day, I will get a new build up. IP: Logged |
