Hi all I saw this bowl and love it but cannot determine the maker. The hallmarks are a ship with full sail, a T and a dragon's head - each in its own cartouche. The retailer was Bigelow and Kennard and the only other marks are a model number and 925/1000 Sterling. Here is a top view of the bowl: And here is a photo of the hallmark: I hope pictures work. I tried to upload a picture of a section of the bowl but apparently I exceeded my limit. If anyone can identify the maker, I would greatly appreciate it. IP: Logged |

The Tennant Company, and I'm not sure the head is a dragon, almost looks like a boar. IP: Logged |

Rainwater lists The Tennant Company as the owner of this mark. They were from New York, New York and were listed as silversmiths before 1896. They were makers of hollowware and dresserware in sterling only. The Hartford Sterling Co. and Phelps & Cary Co. used the same trademark with a different initial in the middle and Rainwater thinks these companies succeeded The Tenant Company. Good looking bowl and this is an interesting trademark. IP: Logged |

Thanks vathek and ahwt! Of course now that I know the maker, it is so much easier to find out about the company. In fact I just found a similar post on here from 2004 that asked about the same mark! help on hallmarks And I found a Jewelers Circular from 1897 that asked about identifying this mark. The answer of course was the Tennet Company located at 33 Union Square. IP: Logged |
