From time to time great faces show up in silver and silverplate. We thought it would be fun to start a thread where we post photos of great silver faces.

Eric de Kolb was born in Vienna in 1916 to a wealthy family. He started designing at age 6. After WWII he moved to NY and created cosmetic packaging for some of the biggest US firms. Later he made jewelry, surrealistic objects, and miniature sculptures, and designed everything from handbags to honey bottles to villas. He died in 2001 during cataract surgery. This large gold de Kolb pin has lifelike enamel eyes, and loops on the reverse for use as a pendant. IP: Logged |

The Gorham pitcher face is by far the coolest face piece I have seen! IP: Logged |

If I'm not mistaken, I've seen that pitcher online and from what I understand, it's entirely hand raised (like their Martele line) Quite a masterpiece, really! IP: Logged |

Do we have this one yet? Shiebler's man-in-the-moon face, which I've seen on various things (pill box, match safe, etc). This one is a baby's rattle and whistle:
Front: Back, with an applied bat, the marks, and the date 1886: IP: Logged |

The Shiebler's man-in-the-moon face with a bat on the reverse is just the thing to quiet a baby. What was Shiebler thinking? IP: Logged |

Hi Polly--thanks! Just don't have as much time as I used to to post stuff. This thread (one of my faves) inspired me to make that pendant--I love faces yet didn't have anything face-y to wear myself! I also just posted a couple face-y mysteries in the jewelry forum. IP: Logged |

pin for the 103rd aero squadron during WWI.
From Wikipedia: quote: i think these pins were given to the ace pilots of this squadron. this piece is marked Tiffany Paris. the only other example of this particular pin I have seen came up at auction in 2009. some "collector" websites sell recasts of this and other pins . many examples of this piece, and other Tiffany-created squadron pins, have been repro'ed and put on the market. A Bacchus head (one of 2) on a Derby silverplate Japanesque pitcher.
Old Man of the North on a silverplate ice water pitcher with a polar bear finial.
