Have you heard the recent "in the news" stuff about mining precious metals and rare earth elements from the seven million tons of solid waste that comes out of US wastewater facilities each year? About 3.5 million tons doesn't get used but rather it is deposed of (in landfills or incinerated). Science says this material is acting as a leachate by collecting "mineable" quantities of precious metals and rare earth elements. The next steps are to figure out how to separate and extract the metals/elements. Here are a few articles:

Hm…I've occasionally eaten gold leaf on food (mostly dessert) in fancy restaurants…and of course the worn-off bits of worn-down silverware have to go SOMEwhere... IP: Logged |
