Does anyone know of a source for purchasing glass liners for open work silver? I have recently bought a beautiful Georgian open work sugar basket, but it doesn't have a liner, and I'd like to put a liner in it. IP: Logged |

I'm sure you are looking at flea markets and on line... IP: Logged |

Pairpoint used to do custom liners, don't know if they still do - and a friend has a local artisan glass-blower do his replacement liners, the prices paid seemed very reasonable to me... ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

There are other places as well. You can find them by searching the internet. If you want a good fit though you will very likely need to order a custom made liner from one of these places which involves sending them your piece of silver and it is not inexpensive since it is custom work by a highly skilled craftsperson. I have heard dealers who are selling items that have lost their glass liners or that have damaged ones try to tell me that you can pick these up for a few dollars - they are misinformed. IP: Logged |

Thanks all; I had expected that it would probably be expensive, but it is a great piece, so it may be worth it. Cheryl, I like the idea of looking for a local glass blower-that would be interesting! IP: Logged |

Doc, I have had luck with good glass blowers... Also FYI if it is done quickly you can use the silver as a mold - this is advanced and has risks, at the least a slight discoloration as the silver gets hot after that!?! Watch out! Round is simpler than oval as it can be blown into to silver to get close to the size. Oval might have to have a mold made. Will you show us the before and after? Good luck. IP: Logged |
