Argentum, in the "silver before sterling" category showed a tea pot made by Asa Blanchard. That reference brought to mind that in the eighties I was doing a sales show at the "Cardel" store in New York city. They carried all the best table top lines. Rene Caraco, one of the brothers, showed me some literature they had received from Porter Blanchard which by then was owned by someone other than Blanchard. The sales literature said that Porter Blanchard was descended from Asa Blanchard in Kentucky. It may have actually said he was the son of Asa Blanchard, but I won't swear to it at this late time. Was Porter Blanchard in any way related to Asa Blanchard. I know his father taught him silversmithing in Massachusetts, but could there have been a connection? Or were the company owners in the dark about its origins? Geoff Blake IP: Logged |

I do not know of any new information discovered of Asa's origins before his appearance in Lexington. He was certainly descended from the same family line as George Porter Blanchard (whose line is well documented for at least 5 generations), but exactly how is lost to the sands of time for now. Whatever the connection, it would have been at least three generations removed. IP: Logged |

Thank you, WEV, for that information. If I was deep into genealogy I might pursue that line of thought to find what the connection was, but I haven't the resources for that. Geoff IP: Logged |
