One of my wife's books on pottery shows some of the unglazed red stoneware that the Elers brothers made in the late 17 century. Before they became potters they were silversmiths and I wonder if anyone has seen any of their silver.

This is an example with a little metal ware. The V&A has other examples.

Thanks Scott. That is interesting information about the Elers brothers.

The book I have is by Griselda Lewis on English Pottery. She reported that the brothers were very secretive and only hired workers that appeared dull witted. John Astbury and Josiah Twyford worked for the brothers and pretended to be half-wits while learning the secrets of the brothers. They later became successful potters.

Since the Elers brothers went bankrupt I am not sure what they saw to use in their business, but it is a good example of how long people having trying to get trade secrets from others.
