There is a really interesting article in the May/June 2017 issue of The Magazine Antiques about silver trophies awarded to best in show agricultural achievements through the 19th & early 20th century. The author, Gary Albert of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, uses the collection of Hank Brockman to illustrate the motivation behind Mr. Brockman's collection as well as why these silver premiums came into being. Highly recommended read.
