[26-2503] I saw this offered for sale and I have seen one before at a consignment shop, but I have no idea what they would be used for. Does anyone know? It's sterling and 7" long. I assume they are for serving something???

Looks like it's meant to stabilize something to be sliced. IP: Logged |

That is a good idea as there are many items that are too thin to use just a regular fork. Here the tongs would only pierce the food slightly. What pattern is this? IP: Logged |

It did not say and there are no markings on it other than sterling. The seller makes the usual claim that it is an "antique" & came from an estate, but that's it. It looks like they mostly deal in jewelry & more expensive porcelain knick knacks and not collectible silver/flatware. I'm not buying it, but I have seen one before and really wonder what it is and can't find it in any of my books. I can't see where it would be practical to eat with it. I just want to solve the mystery! IP: Logged |

I think June maybe on to something. I have cooked a rolled roast. Untied it and tried to carve it at table. When stabilizing the roast to crave, too much fork pressure can create ugly fork marks/piercings, as well as cause the roast to fall apart. I think this specialized fork might be the solution.
