Do any of you have advice about lighting silver display cases? I'm wondering about placement of fixtures, color of light (light temp), and lighting technology/type. I belong to a yacht club that displays trophies in recessed wall cabinets on glass shelves. We need to redo the lighting, which has been a bit of a mishmash, most of which hasn't worked for the past few years. Some of the shelves have wood trim on the front that concealed bulbs, so the trophies were well lit from the front. In another room, the cases had fluorescent tubes running vertically in the front corners of the cases. Lots of glare. Some dealers, I've noticed, display silver on glass shelves lit from above. The cases are in rooms that are used for dining and socializing, so the general lighting in those rooms is fairly soft and warm. Warm light can make silver look tarnished, but we don't want something hard and commercial looking. FWIW, the case sides and backs are lined with a medium-blue color. Reflections can be a bear, as you all know! There's interest in LEDs, but LED diodes could reflect as little white dots. Something with a diffuser? LED tapes? Something dimmable? Not much money in the budget for silver, alas...hoping to find a decent solution even if it just tides us over until we can do something properly. Any advice? IP: Logged |
