Would any other countries outside the U.S. have used the term "COIN" on silver ? Or is that pretty much just a U.S. thing. The reason I ask is that I have a spoon marked COIN with a retailers name of C. VOLCKMAN, and the only C. VOLCKMAN I can find in my searches is a retailer in England. There may be someone in America by that name but I haven't found them. They wouldn't make coin silver spoons in the U.S. and ship them to England with a retailers name on them - would they ? My understanding of the UK laws is that if something is not hallmarked as being sterling, including imported things, then it cannot be sold commercially using the word silver but rather one must use the term white metal. Does anyone know for sure if this is the case? IP: Logged |

Charles Volckman (born Mechlenburg, Germany 1832) is listed as a watchmaker in the 1870 census taken at Baltimore MD and a jeweler in 1880. [This message has been edited by wev (edited 09-05-2018).] IP: Logged |

Thank you WEV. Can I ask where you uncovered this information and how one can access it? Is it an Ancestry search or some other census website ?

In this case, LDS Historical Records, which is quite complete and free. Ancestry makes a good deal of money selling the same information and more, but not from me. IP: Logged |
