I recently bought this nice looking silver pin. It is very Arts & Crafts / Scandinavian looking, but I can't tell who made it or when. It is quite small, only about 1 1/4" wide and tall, and has a conventional modern safety catch. It is surprisingly heavy, and seems to be of good quality. The style reminds me of several makers, particularly Peer Smed. The motif seems Scandinavian, but the STERLING stamp implies a different origin. In the upper right corner of the mark photo is what may be a maker's mark. It looks to me like a floppy leaf. Then again, it might be a flaw in the casting and not a mark at all. Does this piece ring a bell for anyone? It seems so familiar to me, but I don't know enough about jewelry to really pin it down. Could it be a copy of a piece by some other maker? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Brent IP: Logged |

It looks like a really nice quality Jensen recast to me. I don't have the Drucker's Jensen book to look up the design. The leaves are Jensen-like and some designs had variations of bezel set hardstone cabochons (carnelian or chrysophase) or silver "stones". IP: Logged |

It appears you purchased a casting of a Georg jensen brooch. Bill drucker IP: Logged |

No wonder it looked familiar! The round area in the middle should be a cabochon, of course. Real Jensen pieces have flat backs as well, right? Any idea who might have made this knockoff? It is a good casting, if nothing else. Brent IP: Logged |

Brent, the pin is a Jensen recast. The original Jensen ones are design #71. This piece, if a Jensen, also would have had a flat back. Sometimes, instead of being set with a cabochon stone, Jensen pins were actually set with a polished silver hemisphere. There is probably no real chance of identifying the maker. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the eBay reference; comparing the two pieces, I am still impressed with the faker's ability to capture most of the detail intact. Regardless, I will know better next time. At least I didn't pay a Jensen price for it! Brent IP: Logged |
