Hello All,

Here is another abstract modernist piece with a mark I can't identify. The pendant may be for a necklace or an earring, and may not even be silver, though I think it is. The mark looks vaguely like William Spratling's, though I am sure it isn't. Any ideas? Does anyone have anything similar? Thanks!

The mark on your item isn't clear to me. Can you hazard a guess as to what the initials are?

Hi Callie,

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, the mark just isn't clear. It may be CV or an OV, or a GV over the stylized S. If it were a W, it would be very close to the Spratling mark. Odd!

Brent,

Could the posted image of you mark be upsidedown? It looks like it might be a conjoined ND for norway design underneath an "S". Maybe it's meant to be a hill, not sure. It looks like it could be an ND studio piece.

Recently I found out that this is the mark of somebody called Giles Vidal. This is a pewter piece. Unfortunately, I don't yet know anything beyond the name of the maker.

Thanks for the ID Paul.

After perusing the Internet ....
"Giles Vidal"
"Gilles Vidal"
"Gilles Guy Vidal"
Used a special pewter/sterling alloy which allowed for finer stronger elements in his designs.
Working: late 60's to early 70's in Montreal, Canada
A montage from the Internet:
