I just got a sterling silver brooch that appears to be from the 1930's or 1940's and I've never seen the maker's mark before and thought someone might have an idea! The mark is a five-pointed star with a "B" inside it. Thanks! IP: Logged |

The mark is that of B. A. Ballou & Co. of Providence, R.I., in business since 1876. IP: Logged |

My reference source was Rainwater's American Jewelry Manufacturers, and the entry for Ballou mentioned about their "...jewlery since 1976..." so it was definitely in business at the time of the book's writing, which was about 15 or 20 years ago I think. It is probably still in business today. IP: Logged |
