Hello. great site.. Can you recommend books that would have German jewelery marks for the periods 1920 to 1945 or there about. Also on I am writing a book on German military rings and I'm trying to match up makers to their markes, Gahr, Wilm etc... Gaspare IP: Logged |

I could suggest two books in German that at least mention Gahr, Wilm and other German jewelry marks. Schmuck in Deutschland und Osterreich by Ulrike von Hase makes mention of Joseph Wilm and Otto Gahr as well as many others. Schmuck und Gerat unserer Zeit by Herausgegeben von Christianne Weber includes a section on Golden Rings of Honor including photos of rings by many makers including Johan Michael Wilm. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

We know several books with German marks: Besteke des Jugendstils - Art Nouveau Knifes, Forks & Spoons by Barbara Grotkamp-Schepers has marks; it is a new book, published in 2000. Waltrand Neuwirth has a two volume set from 1976, Wiener Gold- und Silberschmiede und Ihre Punzen 1867-1922. Claus Pese published Das Nurnberger Kunsthandwerk des Jugendstils in 1980 and another book with the same name in 1989. Bearbeitet von Graham Dry wrote Munchner Schmuck 1900-1940 which was published in connection with a 1991-91 exhibition at Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, Munich. Christianne Weber, Schmuck der 20er und 30er Jaher in Deutschland, in 1990. OK - one is Austria, but it might be helpful as well. IP: Logged |
