Has anyone ever seen a large L with ANG written beside the large L with A on top, N next and G last, with the word sterling above it? This appears on what looks like a tiffany (style) cigarette lighter. We have seen one on Ebay just like this with sterling Tiffany and Co. on the insert of the lighter. This lighter has all the same things and dimensions as this one on Ebay which says Tiffany however it is a fancier design being it has basketweave design in the silver which actually looks like it is woven silver vs. stamped or engraved. The weave is on all sides including the corners. Thanks in advance for your comments. We assume the large stylized looking L is an L and the rest ANG would make it LANG. Any help will be appreciated. I'm afraid I can't be of any help on this one. There is a Lang company that produced sterling jewelry (a lot of figural brooches). But their mark is different ("Lang" in script) and also I don't know if they ever produced anything such as lighters, so I think we're talking about a different company. Judging from your pictures in the other post, your piece seems to be better quality than the stamped sheet silver Lang jewelry I've seen. Please see photo of this lighter on the general silver forum on the Lang sterliing post. Thank you! This does help in that it narrows our search away from the Lang jewelry person who signed in script. I am now speculating, after having seen a picture of a Tiffany lghter(Thanks to WES) with the actual basket weave design that also had the same insert as the Lang but with Tiffany and Co., where the Lang appeared on the insert, as well as a Tiffany & Co. basket weave lighter with a Zippo insert (on this one Tiffany and Co. appeared on case of lighter on the top edge-with the top edge not having the basket weave on just the top), that Tiffany & Co. certainly had involvement with this type lighter, using different inserts. The Lang lighter I have does not have room anywhere on it except for the insert to place a name of co.,due to the basket weave. I further speculate that a silversmith may have designed this basketweave style lighter OR the insert with the Lang and possibly worked with Tiffany and given permission to make some without the Tiffany and Co. on them and only his name, Lang. It doesn't make sense to me that Lang was a company, as there seems to be no evidence of such a company in documents to be found on the internet and being a lighter collector, I have not heard of this brand of lighter. We bought this one due to the fine silverwork, as we are fond of silver as well as lighters. Thanks for your help!!! IP: Logged |
