I'm not sure I can be of too much assistance here. The piece looks recent (within the past ten years), and probably of Balinese origin. I notice a few vendors at local flea markets are starting to sell imported Balinese jewelry, which seems to be coming onto the flea market jewelry scene in greater amounts, and it has the same type of applied wire- and bead-work decoration. Also, that little leaf design right below the garnet appears rose gold in color--this would be another commonality of jewelry from this region. Although I've not seen a piece of Balinese jewelry with labradorite, that's not to say it doesn't exist, as I tend to pass by the sellers of new imported jewelry. About the maker I have no clue, and I suspect it might be hard to track it down. I hope this helps. IP: Logged |

My guess would also be that it is recently made because the stone is in such nice condition. Labradorite in an inexpensive but very beautiful stone that comes from Canada (for which it was originally named) as well as from Madagascar, India, Finland, and Russia. The piece in your pendant reminds me of the material that comes out of Madagascar which is exporting huge quantities of very nice looking labradorite these days for the inexpensive jewelry market(beads and pendants and such). It would be impossible to say which country source yours comes from without a detailed destructive analysis. You don't see it much on better quality jewelry, expecially with an exposed stone like your pendant since it is so soft and brittle and scratches and shatters so easily. It has a hardness of only 6 on the 10 point Moh scale. By comparison, diamond is the maximum of 10, ruby and sapphire (which are the same stone chemically, except for trace elements) are 9. Fluorite is another very soft and brittle stone that is inexpensive and really beautiful that is used on modern jewelry these days. IP: Logged |
