I have a ring says "Sterling 925" as a secondary hallmark. The primary is a Circle of "Hecho en Mexico" over the top and "D.F" on the bottom of the circle (this refers to the Federal District ~ Mexico City ~ Taxco). It has in the middle of the circle the letters "EMC" or "FMC" right above the "DF". There is a symboly above the "EMC" that I cannot make out for sure. It is under the "Hecho en Mexico" part of the circle and looks to be a feather or bird. It is not an eagle as far as I can tell. I think the "EMC" may be the maker but I don't have any idea who it is or when for sure it was made. The "C" at the end could be a "D" that has worn on the edge. It has a gold square almost "art deco" setting holding a rather large red stone. I am unsure of what the stone is but it is flat and mounted to it is a gold Aztec or Inca warrior (probably Aztec). On the side was a Boy Scout symbol that may have been added later as an applique that was soldered on. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Rusty IP: Logged |

You are correct in most of your assumptions. The DF stands for Districto Federal which is the district in which Mexico City is located. Taxco is not in Mexico City though. I wish we had a complete listing of all talleres (silversmith shops)in Mexico. There is much research still to be accomplished and some of may never be discovered due to time and the lack of documentation. I checked my reference library and found that approx. 300 different makers have used the 3 in the eagle mark. Fred [This message has been edited by FredZ (edited 03-24-2004).] IP: Logged |
