My aunt recently gave me a sterling silver/14K choker and cuff bracelet in very modern style (almost Star Trek looking) that she says are designer originals. I haven't been able to locate any information on the maker. The mark inside both the bracelet and the dangle from the choker says "Louise" (I think). Does anybody out there have any information that might help? IP: Logged |

Hi. Please excuse my delay in replying, have been out of town for a week and was unable to access the internet. I am sorry to say that I don't recognize the silversmith "Louise". This sounds to be mid-century American studio jewelry. Many of these makers do not appear in any reference works and we will never be able to identify some of them. This is unfortunate since many of their works are well designed and made. IP: Logged |

Can you ask your aunt where she acquired your pieces? I have a record of a art jeweller in the 1950s, by the name of Sister Mary Louis. She won a prize in the 1957 Wisconsin Designer- Craftsmen Annual show, for a "sheet silver bracelet lightened by an overall pattern of intriguing pierced shapes". Is it "Louise" for sure? Yes it is Louise for sure. I think this week I will try to upload a pic of the pieces somewhere and post a link. Maybe somebody will have a better idea when they get a look at the style of the pieces. The bracelet is very linear and modernistic. IP: Logged |
