Hello all, Here is a recent purchase. It is a very attractive little pin, but I am not sure who made it or out of what. I bought it from some reliable estate jewelers, who claimed that the stone is a ruby, and that the pin is made of sterling. I have my doubts. I can't prove the stone question either way, but I think the pin is actually gold. The mark appears as shown. I am guessing that they read the mark as "925", when under magnification the middle character is clearly an 8. Could this be a gold standard mark? Anyone recognize the other part of the mark? I am not able to see the marks very well, however you could try this page which shows a 980 marking for sterling: IP: Logged |

Hi Brent, that's a 585, European designation for 585/1000 purity, making it 14 karat gold. Looks like a German piece. Regards, Tom ps. Thanks lj123, for linking to my site, but sorry, only silver marks there. IP: Logged |

Nice find, Brent. I am interested in the construction of the piece. I like how the flowerheads have the design on both sides. Are they solid cast, or two stamped halves? Also, is it me, or are the flowerheads white in color, whereas the rest is yellow? IP: Logged |

Paul, I believe you are right that the white gold flowers are stamped and partially joined so that the petals are open. Note the wire reinforcing the leaves on the back side and the wire bridge to stabalize the flowers. A nice example of fabricated and die stamped construction. The wire also allows for attachment of the pin hinge and catch. Fred IP: Logged |

Hi, Thank you all for your interest! The flowerheads are formed in two halves soldered together, and they are indeed white gold. The main hoop of the structure and the stems of the flowers are conventional "gold" gold, while the leaf that wraps around and through the design is a lemon color. Quite elaborate for such a tiny item. I was wondering if the mark to the left of the 585 was a recognizable trademark. It is basically a trefoil in a circle. Thanks again, Brent IP: Logged |

The marking to the left of the 585 marking maybe the triple crown state marking for Sweden. IP: Logged |
