I have a bracelet that my grandparents picked up in Peru, most likely 1939. On that trip they also went to Taxco and bought some Spratling. There doesn't seem to be much on South American designers, can anyone help me with this hallmark? I've drawn it out as it's difficult to see on the bracelet. It looks like either VOM or UOM. Thanks for any and all assistance.

I'm sorry, but I have no information on the maker of this bracelet. Unfortunately there seems to be very little available on Peruvian smiths. This type of jewelry (silver and 18K, with pre-Columbian motifs) was/is very popular with tourists, as it seems to turn up more than any other kind of Peruvian jewelry. Your example does look to be nice quality (not surprisingly, if your grandparents also bought Spratling). Some pieces are downright garbage in terms of quality of manufacture. IP: Logged |
