I am just stumped by this necklace! It measures 14 ˝", has four ovals (I can't decide if they are porcelain or copper or other metal) are enameled front and back in soft pink, white and almost a sepia tone, featuring an ornate portrayal of a beautifully clad woman's face, two links with an old man's face in silver with enamel details including wings, cabachon garnets, silver drop bobbles and exquisite workmanship. The porcelain pieces are bezel mounted and open backed, except for the final one which holds the clasp and is mounted closed back. Only markings are on the tongue of the clasp as shown - looks like the maker's initials are "LP" and the other mark is anyone's guess, sometimes it looks like it could be a woman's head, other times an animal's - my eyes are just shot. There are no markings of any kind on the portraits. Any and all idea as to age, origin or even who the woman or the old man are is greatly appreciated - I rarely get stumped any more but I just don't have a clue on this one!

Hi. I will check Tardy's for your mark. It is probably Continental. I will try to post more info later today or tomorrow. Is this piece something from your collection or something you plan to sell? In the meantime, could you post close-up pictures of the female portrait, as well as the "old man"? This necklace is quite intriguing and I would like to see some more details. Thanks! IP: Logged |

The overall design and the mark (the Minerve, perhaps?) appear French. IP: Logged |
