is a picture of the markings on the back. Here's a full picture of the back of the piece: I inherited this from my grandmother and LOVE the piece and want to know who made it so I can get more, as well as a sense of the value. The tiny mark on the bottom right looks like it could be D-A for David-Andersen but it's so small, it's hard to tell, and I can find any evidence of his mark every looking quite like that. Also, the other main mark on the bottom left looks like 5w2 or something similar but I can't find anything like that on the internet. Any ideas? Thanks IP: Logged |

Interesting piece. It looks, to my eye at least, like this should do something. Like beyond being a pin, have a real function in life. I can not begin to fathom what that is. Could you also show us the front of it? IP: Logged |

That's the front of it. I'm pretty sure it's not a beer bottle opener or anything. It's only about 1.5-2 inches tall, not as big as it looks here. ETA: It's a pendant, BTW. Not sure I said that before. Hangs from a chain through the loop attached to the back at the top. The way it's shown is the way it's oriented when worn. IP: Logged |

Could this be some sort of measuring device? Poke through the various openings to figure out size? Just speculating, Dale IP: Logged |

Perhaps, but I would prefer that no one start cramming dried spaghetti through the holes while I'm wearing it. But, sincerely, thanks for your help! :P IP: Logged |

Hi Heather, Had to chuckle at the picture of someone following you around trying to measure out their spaghetti. Looks like a nice example of 1950s-60s Modernist, with that free-form organic design (suspect you knew that), though I was still seeing shapes like this well into the '70s at the Scandinavian shops I frequented. I keep coming back to this one because the mark you describe as 5w2 seems familiar to me. Haven't been able to find it my references, but they're pretty slim. Why don't you try a strong loupe and see if you can decipher the other mark. It's very unclear, but doesn't look like a David Andersen mark to me. Possible one is a designer's mark and the other a maker's mark or studio mark. Wish I could be more help! Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

Thanks DFW... if you think of that or run across that mark, let me know. I searched all over for it and found nothing. Why didn't my grandmother give me her jewelry *before* she died so I could figure out where this came from! :-) I do have a ring that should be ready soon at my jeweler, so I'll take the piece with me and see if they or I can use a loupe to get a better look. I agree that it doesn't look like any DA marks I could find online, but if I had to guess the two letters, I'd guess DA. I'll report back what we figure out at the jewelers. Thanks for your help!
