I bought this necklace a couple of months ago and have struggled to do a correct id of it. There are no markings but it does test as silver. Judging by the acid reaction I would say its lower grade than sterling - probably 800. These are guesses on my part about it ? Persian - Iran / Iraq origin. The clasp suggests it does have some age. Can anyone shed any light on this as I am a little intrigued by it. Thank you for any help

Hello there I forgot to say that the arabic writing on this is on both sides of the necklace - so even the side next to the skin bears the arabic inscriptions. Thanks Dusty IP: Logged |

Hi Dusty, Your photos did not materialize. Some old near eastern silver is as low as 650. If the piece has an Arabic inscription, it may be a religious amulet, such as the Ayat al Kursi (the Throne Verse, a very popular prayer), see the Second Surah, around line 255 of the Kuran. I hope this helps. Russell IP: Logged |
