Here is a sterling buckle my mom found in a thrift shop in a box of junk(I think this story belongs in the silver stories section but here goes). My family knows I collect sterling and pick up things for me in hopes that it might be something good. So far it has consummated in a few silverplated items, and really not anything of real interest. The other day my mom dropped off a tea strainer, curious as to it's composition(I was at work at the time), but took the buckle home thinking it was nothing special. Well, unfortunately the tea strainer was of the not-so-precious e.p.n.s. variety, and was repaired taboo. Today I was at my parents for a visit and my mom says "oh yeah, you should have a look at this." Of course it was badly tarnished, but I knew it was solid silver right away. Then, with a little polishing, sure enough, London 1896. Anyways, I'm not sure who the maker is (mark is CL) or if this is half the buckle or all of it, so any help is appreciated. Oh yeah, and she paid $10 for the silver plated strainer and the store owner threw in the buckle for free! My mother certainly has an eye for bargains!(I could tell you about many things she has found in unusual places, but will limit it to sterling) IP: Logged |
